Dearest Subscriber
Something’s happening that hasn’t happened since the dawn of time itself, (or also since the start of Substack).
In the dead of night, (but also midday due to timezone variations), thirteen intrepid writers convened for an orientation meeting at a secret location (pictured above) to hatch a plan to entertain you beyond your wildest dreams. And we can now reveal that that plan was that there was no plan… which (as it turned out) took quite a lot of planning.
Yes, I give you…
The seven rules you didn’t realise you really wanted to know…
All writers are approximately consenting adults in command of most of their faculties, (as the ravages of time allow)
Writers agree to random selection, though not necessarily mutation
The first writer will go first with only a paragraph to cling onto
Each writer thereafter has only just but one single week to complete their secret chapter in secret
The golden rule of The Great Substack Story Challenge is that there is no golden rule (apart from Geoffrey’s own one at the end) since there’s no outline, no plot, no genre and no pre-existing characters
Readers must be completely free to have to enjoy the story
Readers are allowed to attempt to bribe writers by any (monetary) means necessary in order influence the direction of said story
Sign up now whilst there’s still time to fill that existential void inside…
Follow this link to the Fictionistas Substack where you’ll find subscription details for all the writers. They’ll be posting their respective chapters on their Stacks.
I’ll post mine on my flash/short fiction Stack Fulgurites.
Wish us luck, good people of earth. There’s every possibility we’re going to need it.
